The AFC project consists of part new construction, and the refurbishment of an existing early 20th century light industrial unit at a brownfield site in King’s Cross. It is to create a new home for a pioneering school catering for those with mental health issues.

Anna Freud Centre is a charity partner for Heads Together, a campaign championed by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry to tackle stigma surrounding mental health. The development consists of new offices, conference facilities, meeting areas, research spaces and children’s school for a leading children’s mental health charity at a brownfield site in King’s Cross.  The development will also host a range of other activities, including training and clinical research.

CES developed the sustainability/energy strategy for the building, including implementation of low carbon energy systems, natural ventilation, passive cooling and renewable energy sources including a photovoltaic array and networked CHP.  This enables the building to achieve BREEAM “Excellent” status and 47% reduction in carbon emissions.

CES achieved planning permission under the London Borough of Islington‘s new environmental planning policies, and are currently in the last stages of detailed design, with construction due to start.
