CES has been appointed as part of the contractor team to develop and implement the design portion of the new UAL Academic building for the Camberwell Campus. The new building provides over 7000m2 of new teaching space in Camberwell, London.

CES has designed a dynamic model to develop, assess and confirm the energy, sustainability and comfort criteria for the project. The development employs a central atrium to promote stack generated natural ventilation for the scheme. This has helped towards achieving a BREEAM “Excellent” status and a 40.6% reduction in carbon emissions.

The new academic building will consist of a new glass front and public courtyard.  The project includes:

  • Larger studios and teaching space
  • New lecture theatre
  • New library with study space
  • Gallery
  • Fully accessible entrance
  • Creation of an outside courtyard that will be a focal point of the campus
  • On site student accommodation with dedicated study space for the first time
  • Catering facility
  • Specialist LEV Extract

The project completed at the end of 2018, and we are currently involved in the ‘soft landings’ process, with the aim of ensuring the continued successful operation of the building for the client.
